Our 7th grade students took a break from studying to enjoy a party featuring delicious Israeli food with their teacher, Dina Levine, and Abrams Assistant Principal Ben Pinker. Next year, these students will embark on Abrams’ annual 8th grade trip to Israel! Below, please find a summary of their “Israel Party” by 7th grader Benjy.
“Over the past few months, our class has studied all about Israel, from early history all the way up to modern times. We first learned about the destruction of the second temple by the Romans in 70 CE. We moved on to the Zionist Congress and to the Israeli Parliament in the Knesset, and the Prime Ministers.
We have talked about foundations in Israellike the Jewish National Fund. A very important part of our studies was the Israeli Defense Forces and the gadna. We also had many discussions about Israel’s chrnoc water problem.
We learned about the many religions and people in Israel and we recently ended a chapter on transportation and ports in Israel. We are currently studying food in Israel and to celebrate our progress, we had a party to enjoy the food eaten in Israel!”
Here is a glimpse of a video conference with Rabbi Yissocher Frand of Ner Tamid Rabbinical College in Baltimore, Maryland. He meets with Abrams students twice monthly via video conference to discuss the weekly parasha.
The four-year-olds have started our workbooks. They will be mastering their ABCs throughout the year, utilizing their phonics book. It’s new and exciting and quite sophisticated for our Nursery program. We love our newly renovated classroom! It enhances our learning experiences.
Mrs. Kozak is in the process of scheduling a video conference for the Kindergarten on Tuesday, November 24 with the Liberty Science Center. The title of the program is “Water Dance.” Water is the most common substance on Earth, covering nearly three-quarters of the planet; its quantity on Earth has been the same for hundreds of millions of years. Yet, how much do we know about how water moves through our world? We will explore the water cycle and the water in our weather.
Mrs. Wisnoff’s three-year-olds learned about noctournal animals through songs, stories and role play. They even made owl masks and raccoon puppets! They also talked about fire prevention. The class became fire chiefs and learned how to stop, drop and roll. Mrs. Wisnoff’s class also now have the “MAcaroni Grill” in their classroom! It is a table filled with macaroni (cleaner than sand!) that creates a lot of tactile fun for the children!
