Abrams Welcomes New Science Teacher, Craig Berman

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

Abrams welcomes Mr. Craig Berman as its new science teacher.  Mr. Berman comes to Abrams with extensive teaching and research experience.

Mr. Berman received both his Bachelor’s degree in Life and Health Sciences and his Masters degree in Entomology and Applied Ecology from University of Delaware, Newark.  He has been developing and teaching science curriculum to children for nearly two decades.  He served as Environmental Educator and Naturalist at Briar Bush Nature Center in Abington, Pa.; Science Teacher and Science Program Coordinator at Drexel Hill School of the Holy Child in Drexel Hill, Pa.; and Science Teacher and Science Department Head at the Langley School in McLean, Va.  He has also served as a summer Science Teacher for the GEAR UP/Minority Achievement program for Arlington Public Schools in Arlington, Va.; the Flint Hill School’s Summer on the Hill porgram in Oakton, Va.; and Camp Gan Israel  for Chabad Lubavitch of Northern Virginia in Fairfax, Va.

“Craig was instrumental in the development of The Langley School’s outstanding science program,” says Mrs. Doris E. Cottam, Head of School at The Langley School in McLean, Va.  “Our [8th grade graduates] talk about how as they move on to high school they are praised for their knowledge of how to write a lab report and think critically about science ‘thanks to Mr. Berman’.”

Susan T. Atkinson, The Langley School’s Head of Middle School, adds, “[Mr. Berman's] expectations for his students are clearly high and they work diligently to meet or exceed those expectations.  His classes are very hands-on and the students, utilizing the scientific method as their guide, learn to appreciate science and the world around them.”

Mr. Berman is also an outstanding musician who plays with a professional band, and who brings this experience to his students.  Welcome to Abrams, Mr. Berman!
